Lech Lecha 5769 #2 in English
Rav David Daniel Hacohen שליט״א
Résumé
In this second English class on Lech Lecha, the Rav discusses why Avraham went down to Egypt during the famine and asked Sarah to say she was his sister. He then recalls the war of the kings, the rescue of Lot, and Avraham's refusal to take anything from the king of Sodom, in contrast with the gifts he accepted in Egypt, which he kept for Sarah's burial. According to the Rav, the deeper reason is that Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov are reincarnations of Adam Harishon, who had mixed holy and unholy souls, and each came to separate them. The Rav says Avraham went to Egypt hoping to cancel the decree of exile, but Hashem did not allow it, and Yitzchak was told not to go because his merit was needed for the time of the Mashiach. The Rav concludes that we must be very careful to avoid mistakes, since their consequences can last for generations.
