Hayé Sarah 5769 - Parashat Haye Sarah in english
Rav David Daniel Hacohen שליט״א
Résumé
In this short English class on Parashat Chayei Sarah, the Rav asks why Avraham gave Yitzchak all his wealth in writing before sending Eliezer, and why the Torah mentions the ten camels. He first recounts a story told by Rav Moshe Feinstein about a man who criticized the daughters of Lot and fell gravely ill. The Rav then explains that the Hebrew word for camel, gamal, is linked to gemilut chesed: a woman wants a husband who knows how to give. Avraham therefore passed his trait of chesed on to Yitzchak, whose soul was changed at the Akeidah. Yaakov, born of both Avraham and Yitzchak, will know when to give and when to hold back, balancing chesed and gevurah. The lesson is to practice chesed wisely in our own lives. The automatic transcript is somewhat imprecise.
